International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”)

A Day Devoted to Strengthening the Ideals of Peace

International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by resolution 36/37, the United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. Furthering the day’s mission, the General Assembly voted unanimously in 2001 to adopt resolution 55/282 establishing 21 September as an annual day of non-violence and cease- fire.

Anyone, anywhere can celebrate Peace Day. It can be as simple as lighting a candle at noon, sitting in silent meditation, or doing a good deed for someone you don’t know. Or it can involve getting your co-workers, organization, community or government engaged in a large event. You can also share thoughts, messages and pictures to commemorate Peace Day on social media.

Intros and New Friends

Let's introduce ourselves and make new friends!

To introduce yourself you say things like:

Hi, I'm Carlos Gutierrez
Hi, my name's Carlos Gutierrez but you can call me Carl

To answer to that .. you say things like:

Hi, Carlos.  Nice to meet you.
                  Glad to meet you.

Now, follow the conversation and introduce yourself:

A: Hi, I'm Carlos Gutierrez. What's your name?
B: Hi, Carlos. Nice to meet you. My name's Luis Perdomo.
A: Nice to meet you, too.

A. Read about Juan. (this is just a model.. feel free to add more to the different paragraphs)

My name’s Juan Gonzalez but you can call me Juanchi. I’m from Maracaibo, originally. I live in Maracaibo, in Monte Claro. I’m 20 years old and I study  electronics engineering at URBE . My favorite subjects are mathematics and English. This trimester I am taking 4 classes and I am in the 7th trimester.

talking on the phone
I love music, dancing, playing soccer, driving my car (I have a red sport car), surfing the net, studying English, talking on the phone with my friends, pizza , chocolate, my family , my country and my dog. I like to go to parties and I also enjoy playing video games..

I hate onions, listening to hip hop, getting up early on the weekend, violence, war, injustice, and washing the dishes. I don't like smoking.  I can't stand people smoking.

Eiffel Tower
My dream is to travel around the world, visit the Pyramids in Egypt and The Eiffel Tower in Paris. Of course, I want to graduate from Engineering School and be a good engineer. I also want to learn to speak French, and Italian. I’d love to work in an important company and buy a house, get married and start a family.

About English, I love to learn new languages. I think English is very important. What do I do to practice my English? well, I listen to music and watch TV in English. It’s a good exercise. I also chat on the internet and have friends in many countries. I use social networks like facebook and twitter to connect to people around the world and make friends. I also use my mobile phone to write messages or surf the internet for new vocabulary. Nowadays, there are really cool applications to practice and learn new languages. I used Duolingo.  I can write well, but I need to practice more. The most difficult for me is speaking. I want to practice in class and out of class, too. I hope I can make a lot of friends and practice speaking in this class.

Well, This is a little bit about me. Hope you liked it...

Keep on Shining Love and Peace!
Juanchi
